Mail Server Migration to new Platform FAQ
The KB article is to
detail the migration process to our new SmarterMail platform. Starting on the
15/3/2008 we will be migrating all email accounts to our new mail platform, this
will benefit you with a faster more stable email service, and a new webmail
system which is much simpler to use. This only applies to older icewarp
accounts, domains added after November 2007 will not be affected and are already
on the new mail platform.
You will notice the following changes once your
email is moved:
- No catch-all email
accounts will work
- The new platform does not support catch-all
email accounts, the main reason for this is to reduce unnecessary load on the
system and also to reduce the amount of spam received to your addresses. To
accommodate this we will be adding 5 free email forwarders to your account is
required so you can setup any addresses you use to forward to your mail email
account once the catch all function is turned off.
- Do not hestitate to contact us if you need aliases setting up to replace your catch all account.
- No contacts will be migrated from your existing Icewarp
webmail
- We are unable to move any existing contacts you have
setup in icewarp webmail, however you can move these manually by following the
instructions below:
- Login to your existing webmail (available at http://mail.firstcms.co.uk)
- Click on 'Address Book', in
the window that pops up you will see an 'Export Contacts' option
- Simply
follow the prompts to download an export of your address book contacts

Login to your new webmail (available at http://mail.yourdomain, once your domain has been
migrated)
- Click on 'Contacts' >> ' My Contacts'
- Then hover over
'Action' and click on 'Import Contacts'
- You can then follow the prompts to
import your contacts.
- The trash folder
from your existing webmail will not be moved.
- We are unable to
move your trash folder from your existing webmail login.
These are the
major changes in the new system, however we expect most clients will not even
notice the changeover due to the process we have tested over the past few
months.

Q. How do I check if my domain has been
moved?
A. To check if your domain has been moved you can visit
'http://mail.yourdomain' if you see the icewarp webmail login screen your email
has not yet been moved, if you see a smartermail login page your email has
already been moved.
Q. Will I lose any
email during the migration?
A. The tool we have developed will set
the existing mailserver to forward all email to the new server once your account
is migrated, meaning no email will be lost even while the DNS servers are
updating.
Q. My email has stopped
working after the migration, why?
A. Please check you are using
'mail.yourdomain' as the POP3 and SMTP servers in your email client, if you
still have issues please contact us and we can talk you through the process..
Q. Can you give me a time when my domain will be
migrated?
A. Due to the large number of accounts and the massive
amount of email to be copied we are performing the migration in batches,
therefore it is difficult to give any specific times when your mail will be
moved.
